Exergaming beats traditional exercise

Exergaming beats traditional exercise

Study shows that 30 minutes playing is equivalent to 40 minutes walking.

“If it wasn’t for - literally any excuse in the world - I’d definitely have gone for that walk.” Does this sound familiar? Lack of motivation is a curse, and one of the main reasons we can’t seem to get off the couch. But what if you could replace some hours spent on the couch with a gaming session designed to keep you moving, for even longer than you may actually realize?

Replace walking with fun

A study done at NTNU (Norwegian University of Science and Technology) compared the similarities between exergaming on the Playpulse ONE with the activity of walking. The results underlined the beliefs held by the professors; Exergaming done the right way - is a good way to stay active.

Playing the game provided the participants with more value and enjoyment during the time spent exergaming, compared to the walking activity. While playing Pedaltanks, the participants also wanted to stay active for longer, which resulted in bigger efforts being put in for each ride.

The study proved that “The Exercise intensity during exergaming was moderate to high, with intervals reaching up to 90% of maximum heart rate, and with more than one-third of the total activity spent above 80%. The participants rated the enjoyment of exergaming high, and they voluntarily continued to play approximately 30 min longer than they were asked to”.

The study also mentions that the exercise intensity during the examination and playing Pedaltanks was similar to conventional high-intensity interval training.

Lack of activity

According to the Bureau of Labor statistics, 4 out of 5 of the U.S. population were not engaged in sports or exercise on a daily basis. Playing on the Playpulse ONE for 30 min a day, or at least a few days a week, would definitely contribute to fulfilling the daily recommended exercise guidelines.

Remember how time used to fly by while playing video games as a child? The Playpulse ONE triggers this feeling, which helps motivate you to play over and over again.

Better health with the Playpulse ONE

A study done at Florida Atlantic University, tells us that approximately 36 percent of adults in the U.S. do not engage in any leisure-time physical activity. The authors point out that brisk walking every day for only 20 minutes, which can be practiced even among the oldest adults, results in a 30 to 40 percent reduced risk of a heart attack.

Getting on the Playpulse ONE is just the start, because as you become more active, you just might find that initial motivation that once seemed out of sight. It proves that picking up on a good exercise routine really can come as easily as picking up a video game.

Let’s play!
